I had just turned 26 years old and was completely naive in understanding any of the world political complexitites of the time, despite being involved in local and state politics.
But on November 4th, our Embassy in Tehran, Iran (now officially known as "The Islamic Republic of Iran") was mercilessly and violently attacked and placed under siege by self-described Muslim extremist. 52 of our American citizens (Democrats AND Republicans) were taken as so-called hostages for 444 days. One of the terrorist captors was Iran's current "president" under the leadership of the Ayatollah Khomeini.
Our Americans were blindfolded and put on display as trophies of their defiance against the U.S. Our countrymen were humiliated and filled with terror thinking they were moments away from death. And for the many months that followed after November 4th, we as a nation, and as a so-called government seemingly did nothing but tie yellow ribbons on everything we could find. As a young American citizen, I began to really believe that we weren't at all those things that we were taught, but we were truly just the opposite. How is it, I pondered, that the most powerful, best equipped nation in the world, could not just simply go get them out, bring them home and close shop, so to speak? We tried, but our military had been forced to cut their budgets, and they errantly tried a helicopter rescue in the middle of a sand storm. We cut bait, and left.
I became very familiar with our government and all that were in charge at the time when this catastropic display of weakness in our American history took place. I knew, even as a young man, our United States government must never, ever have men in powerful positions that cannot come to the expedient rescue of it's own countrymen. Especially when you're there working on behalf of your government and countrymen. It was a shameful time. Jimmy Carter was our President and Cyrus Vance and Edmund Muskie were his Secretaries of State, respectively. They had allowed the long time friend of the U.S., the Shah of Iran to be exiled to Europe in fear of his life, allowing the Islamic fascists to seize control of the country
But Carter is gone. So is Vance and Muskie. However, the much larger problem remains: The Islamic Republic of Iran.
We must for the good of our country and for that of the whole world, bring that regime completely and violently down. There has been absolutely nothing but evil to come out of that country's government since it violently came to power by shamefully humiliating us and our people in 1979. Remember,The Islamic Republic of Iran's president is, indeed, one of the captors. His outrageous and incindiary racist remarks and their government's actions need to be recognized and targeted.
That country's government literally formed itself and has become what it is today based on the shame, dishonor, and humiliation they brought to the people and government of The United States of America.
Here we are, 30 years later, and we're still having to contend with the Gold Buckle of the Islamic fascist Belt.
To the point: the complete governing and ruling authority in Iran "must be wiped off the face of the earth."
What a wonderful and thoughtful anniversary gift to the world and to our patriots who suffered in fear for 444 days. But given our current leadership's refound love for Islam, I would not hold your breath.
leftahead, 3 weeks ago | FlagSo, we can't even take care of business in Iraq, but you think we can wipe the Iranian authority off the face of the Earth? A country that is twice the size of Iraq, and is over 3,000 years old....we'
re going to take them out? Are you high? Do you realize that 50% of their population is under the age of 30? Do you realize that most of these people are actually big supporters of the US? Of course not, because you keep hearing about how evil they are...when it is only the Prime Minister.. .who has no power, by the way.....
RealAmericanBiker, 3 weeks ago | FlagGood idea but the liberal dumbocrats
would cry even louder. Besides good luck getting that wimp Obama to do anything.
voidthis1966, 3 weeks ago | FlagIt is sad but your right! Don't look for Obama to do anything. He has his own agendas in play. Obama has made it quite apparent where he stood with these radical leaders i.e. Castro, Chevez etc. He is going to continue to make nice nice with this loon. More than likely he will get Americans killed. It is jut a matter of time. The only thing this terrorist understand
s is power. He sees none out of the United States. What he sees is a guy going around apologizin g for us. He sees a guy, much like himself, trying to take over the country. The United States got more than we bargained for when we voted for change.
