Critical analysis needed

Now we have it........Ford is about to report just under $1 billion in earnings for the 3rd quarter.  That is without the same stimulus money and/or the same UAW concessions that GM and Chrysler received from their workers.

So what could be responsible for such a turn around at Fords?

Well two issues seem plausible.

1.  There has been a successful emphasis on improving the quality of their products.

2.  They haven't been reluctant to change upper management when it appeared to be necessary.

Does this demonstrate that American auto makers can again be profitable and still pay their workers a decent wage?

What has the demonizing of the UAW and subsequent lowering of wages at GM and Chrysler done for them?

Comments

  • Does the return to emphasizing quality mean that we may return to the days when products from most other countries (especially Japan) were considered inferior to American products?

Will car makers finally be more concerned about using parts, etc. that will last, instead of trying to force people to purchase more repair parts and/or new cars?

  • One thing for sure...FORD did it without a bailout pay off and worked with the Cash For Clunkers program.  From what I have gathered from others, they have also improved on their products as well.

  • DAK, Ford still hasn't gained the UAW worker concessions that GM and Chrysler have, but yet they are turning a profit........why is that?  I remember when almost everything that we read or heard was about how the UAW ruined the auto industry......but Ford seems to disprove that.....what gives?
