    CAPE CORAL, Fla -- A local post office employee is off the job and under arrest. Investigators say she's been going through people's mail and stealing gift cards.
    
    The postal inspector's office has charged the letter carrier with mail theft. At this point they are refusing to tell us the suspect's name or which Cape Coral post office she worked at.
    
    "Anyone who still puts money in an envelope is probably taking a chance," said postal customer Steven Berkowitz. "But a gift card, I find that crazy."
    
    Postal inspectors say they found several gift cards when they arrested this woman. They are now trying to determine how to send the cards back to their rightful owners.
    
    The US Postal Service says it has suspended the letter carrier without pay while it investigates what happened.

    In the news lately have been illegal immigration rates, a raid on guitar maker Gibson's plant, and the never ending saga of the Delta Smelt.

    "According to news reports, illegal immigration arrests are down 50% under directive of the Obama administration.

    The figures show that Mr. Obama has made good on his pledge to shift enforcement away from going after illegal immigrant workers themselves - but at the expense of Americans' jobs, said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the Republican who compiled the numbers from the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

    Mr. Smith, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, said a period of economic turmoil is the wrong time to be cutting enforcement and letting illegal immigrants take jobs that Americans otherwise would hold." -Washinton Times

    Meanwhile, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (not our fish or wildlife, but Madagascar and Brazil's) had time to serve warrants on Nashville based Gibson Guitars.

    "Agents of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service made a midday appearance and served a search warrant on company officials at Gibson's Massman Drive manufacturing plant, where it makes acoustic and electric guitars.

    Gibson issued a statement saying it is "fully cooperating with agents of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as it pertains to an issue with harvested wood." The company said it did nothing wrong." -The Tennessean

    And on the west coast, the Central Valley, a supplier of much of our produce is dry, unemployed (Fresno reports unemployment upwards of 50%) because the same agency is concerned about the Delta Smelt, an alledged "endangered" species of fish.

    Now, come on people, where is the sense in all of this? We have eased off border enforcement, that not only effects our national security, but also employment at a time the legal American citizens are looking for work, and not mention that these illegals are masters of freeloading off our tax dollars.

    Then we turn around and waste money trying bust a major Nashville business over suspicion of using rainforest trees. And even more upsetting, the Central Valley issue has been going on for some time, with pleas the Puppet in Chief to issue order to turn on the spiggot before all is lost in this once fertile growing region (to no avail). Did it ever occur to these government idiots to catch a few hundred of these fish and relocate them or put them in an aquarium?

    How stupid are we going to let things get? Just wondering!

    You know the expression "One Bad Apple"!  Well it would seem that the US Postal Service has not only allowed "One Bad Apple" to spoil the whole lot but they have hurt themselves with NO MORE SANTA LETTERS!  Seems the Postal Service not only has claimed of losses due to internet and other competition but they went further by cutting their own throats!  So why don't they just suggest to parents how they should explain this to their children!  This is only within the USA, all other children around the world will be sending their letters in!  So want our children be concerned and upset about letting Santa know what they want for Christmas?  How do you explain this to children?

    Researchers are working with the venom from Snakes, Toads, Scorpions, and Sea Snails for curing cancer and other illnesses!

    SNAKES

    The poisonous venom of snakes and toads may provide a possible cure for cancer, according to a new research.  The scientists are now trying to single out the proteins in the venom that have anti-cancer properties and inhibit the growth of malignant cells.

    Snake venom is a complex mixture of several toxic proteins and enzymes. These proteins not only inflict death to human beings, but can also be used for the treatment of cancer and many other diseases.

    The study published in the Journal of Ethnophamacology gives an overview of various snake venom components that have prospects in health and diseases.  Not only does the snake protein thwart the spread of new tumors throughout the body, it also stops the growth of existing tumors by inhibiting the formation of blood vessels that feed them.

    Researchers from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles reported isolated and purified the copperhead snake venom protein, which they named contortrostatin. In initial experiments, contortrostatin hindered the growth and metastasis of several different human tumors implanted in mice, including breast, ovarian and brain tumors.

    TOADS

    Huachansu, a Chinese medicine that comes from the dried venom secreted by the skin glands of toads, has tolerable toxicity levels, even at doses eight times those normally administered, and may slow disease progression in some cancer patients, say researchers from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

    Studying traditional Chinese medicine such as Huachansu is new to American research institutions, which have been skeptical and slow to adopt these complementary treatments. However, it is important to understand its potential role in treating cancer.

    SCORPIONS

    Brain surgeons at two major medical centers—City of Hope in Los Angeles and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) —will soon begin treating patients suffering from glioma, one of the most deadly forms of brain cancer, with an investigational new drug called 131I-TM-601, being developed by TransMolecular, Inc., a Birmingham-Ala.-based neuroscience biotechnology company.

    In pre-clinical studies, TransMolecular scientists determined that 131I-TM-601 was able to extend survival in a mouse model that mimicked human brain tumors. TM-601, based on chlorotoxin sequences, has been shown to be non-toxic in animal studies.

    SEA SNAIL

    A synthetic form of sea snail venom can ease pain in cancer and AIDS victims who get no relief from morphine or other conventional painkillers, a study found.  Laboratory research has found evidence that the venom that the snails inject to immobilize their prey might have beneficial effects on some heart problems, strokes, central nervous system disorders and other ills.

    The snail-venom research involved 111 patients ages 24 to 85 in the United States, Australia and the Netherlands.  The latest study involved the experimental drug ziconotide, a laboratory-made equivalent of a compound in the venom of the small Conus Magus cone snail, which lives in shallow tropical saltwater.

    The infusions produced significant relief in patients whose pain did not respond to more conventional drugs such as morphine.

• Obama's recovery chief thinks

    G. Edward DeSeve, the man running President Obama's economic recovery effort has a post up today on Recovery.gov that deserves a place in the Out-of-Touch Government Officials Hall of Fame.

    DeSeve is Special Advisor to the President, Assistant to the Vice President and Special Advisor to the OMB Director for Implementation of the Recovery Act.

     

    Titled "Looking at the big picture on the Recovery Act," DeSeve claims all those "mistakes" like the thousands of jobs created in congressional districts that don't exist or counting raises as jobs created by stimulus funding "are relatively few and don't change the fundamental conclusions one can draw from the data."

    DeSeve might as well have said "nothing to look at here, folks, now move along." Or perhaps "hey, it's close enough for government work, so what's the problem?"

    As anybody who knows elementary statistics can attest, putting in one piece of bad data can render an entire database useless, or worse, produce analytical results that bear absolutely no relation to reality.

    DeSeve also claims some of the mistakes are "frustrating typos and coding errors that don't undermine information at the heart of the data." But when hundreds of frustrating typos and coding errors" are found in a database, competent database analysts and statisticians know you go back to the original source, correct the errors, and then start doing analysis and drawing conclusions.

    DeSeve and his bosses in the White House want us to just ignore such data-entry problems and accept the Obama administration's fairy tale conclusions about what the data tell us regarding the success of the stimulus program.

    Third, DeSeve claims that having so many errors is okay because "transparency is going to be messy but it is better than the alternative." That's like telling the cancer patient that your surgeon today didn't finish med school but, hey, letting him cut you open is better than the alternative, which is dying.

    The reality DeSeve is trying to avoid coming to grips with is that, for whatever reason and regardless of who is at fault, the data being produced by his shop is worthless as indicators of the value of the Obama administration's economic stimulus program. It is incredible that he would even attempt to argue to the contrary after multiple mainstream media organizations dug into the numbers and found seemingly endless examples of mis-counting, mis-representation, and outright fraudulent claims.

    Such as here, here, here, and here. And that's just a sample of what's been found so far by mainstream media journalists, bloggers, and investigative journalism outfits. If President Obama is genuinely interested in restoring honesty in government and public trust in its statements, he will fire DeSeve, shut down recovery.gov., and apologize to the American people for allowing this farce to go on as long as it has.

    By the way, if you want accurate data about the stimulus program, check out recovery.org, which is maintained by Onvia, a private company that specializes in tracking government data, funding, contracts, etc.

    Here's a stimulus success story: In Arizona's 15th congressional district, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending. At least that's what the Web site set up by the Obama administration to track the $787 billion stimulus says.

    And ABC News has found many more entries for projects like this in places that are incorrectly identified.

    Late Monday, officials with the Recovery Board created to track the stimulus spending, said the mistakes in crediting nonexistent congressional districts were caused by human error.

    "We report what the recipients submit to us," said Ed Pound, Communications Director for the Board.

    Pound told ABC News the board receives declarations from the recipients - state governments, federal agencies and universities - of stimulus money about what program is being funded.

    "Some recipients clearly don't know what congressional district they live in, so they appear to be just throwing in any number. We expected all along that recipients would make mistakes on their congressional districts, on jobs numbers, on award amounts, and so on. Human beings make mistakes," Pound said.

    The issue has raised hackles on Capitol Hill.

    Rep. David Obey, D-Wisc, who chairs the powerful House appropriations Committee, issued a paper statement demanding that the recovery.gov Web site be updated.

    "The inaccuracies on recovery.gov that have come to light are outrageous and the Administration owes itself, the Congress, and every American a commitment to work night and day to correct the ludicrous mistakes."

    Well, folks; now we have HARD EVIDENCE of what the government's version of "health care" is going to look like from here on out.  A task force of government doctors (part of the Federal government's Health & Human Services offices, who rely on a paycheck from the Federal Government for their livelihood, and therefore HIGHLY likely to think with their wallets instead of their medical degree) have determined that women under 50 don't need to get yearly mammograms, and that self-testing for early detection is a waste of time.

    (a)  The government has just inserted itself between the women of the United States and their physicians.

    (b)  The task force's pronouncement is in direct contradiction of the recommendations of the American Cancer Society.

    (c)  Look for health insurance companies to cease covering mammograms for anyone under the age of 50.

    Everyone say "Thank you!" to the duly elected, no longer representative, government of the United States.

    As he flew to Asia on Saturday, President Obama told the media in Alaska that he opposes a congressional investigation into the Fort Hood massacre, saying that we must "resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into political theater." Yet, even as he was posturing against political theatrics, he had just decided that the prosecution of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed would proceed on the greatest of public stages -- New York City.
    
    With the strict evidentiary rules in force in federal civilian courts, it is easy to see how the prosecution of Mohammed could morph into an indictment of the Bush administration's interrogation techniques and waterboarding. As in rape trials, the magnitude of the underlying crime (masterminding the 9/11 attacks) might well be lost as the defense puts the victim (in this case, the government) on trial.
    
    It is not political theater itself to which Obama objects -- but theater that highlights issues that liberals would rather forget. He is quite content to let the Mohammed trial become the theater of the left. Perhaps even eager.
    
    Obama and his handlers know that the key to building favorable ratings is to control the agenda. And the more the national discussion centers on national security and terrorism, the more Republicans gain. So the Fort Hood terror attack comes at an awful time for an administration trying to turn the nation's attention away from the terrorist threat.
    
    As soon as the killing spree was over, Obama hastened to call it "an act of violence" -- obscuring the obvious fact that it was the most serious terror attack on US soil since 9/11. And, as evidence mounts that the FBI was on to Major Nidal Malik Hasan for years, the president is doing his best to stop Congress from finding out why these warnings went unheeded.
    
    Even as Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee confirmed that the government knew of 10 to 20 e-mails between Hasan and a radical imam in Yemen -- who was urging the killing of American troops -- starting last December, Obama hastened to urge Congress to refrain from investigating why the danger signs were ignored.
    
    The Obama administration has a clear agenda here:
    
    1) Stop people from focusing in how his administration permitted the worst domestic terror attack in eight years.
    
    2) Avoid a national airing of how liberal policies -- restraints on the intelligence community, political correctness in the armed forces -- might have inhibited the military from reining in Hasan.
    
    3) Re-ignite a firestorm on the left and abroad against the aggressive anti-terror policies of the Bush administration.
    
    Making all this particularly important for Obama are his other political needs.
    
    As he likely decides to send more troops to Afghanistan and eyes abandoning the "public option" to secure Senate passage of his health-care plan, Obama has to rebuild his credibility on the left. A public circus that focuses on waterboarding and interrogations could be just what he wants and needs.

    CHICAGO (Reuters) - Cancer experts fear new U.S. breast imaging guidelines that recommend against routine screening mammograms for women in their 40s may have their roots in the current drive in Washington to reform healthcare.

    Critics of the guidelines, issued on Monday by the U.S. Services Task Force, an independent panel sponsored by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Quality, say the new guidelines are a step backward and will lead to more cancer deaths.

    Here are some of their concerns.

    * Dr Carol Lee, chairwoman of the American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Commission, said she fears insurers -- both private and public -- will use them to pare back health costs.

    "These new recommendations seem to reflect a conscious decision to ration care," Lee said in a statement.

    She said since the onset of regular mammogram screening in 1990, the death rate from breast cancer, which had been unchanged for the preceding 50 years, has decreased by 30 percent.

    * Dr Len Lichtenfeld, deputy chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society, said the influential group will not change recommendations for routine mammograms for women starting at age 40.

    But he is worried that women will become so confused by the conflicting recommendations they will stop getting mammograms altogether. "Frankly, from our point of view that would be the worst possible outcome," Lichtenfeld said in a telephone interview.

    * Lichtenfeld and other doctors are worried that insurance companies and government insurers will seize on the recommendations as a way to control rising health costs.

    "What is going to happen is insurers are going to say, 'The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force doesn't support screening. We're not going to pay for it,'" said Dr Daniel Kopans, professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School and a senior radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

    "There were no new data to assess. One has to wonder why these new guidelines are being promulgated at a time when healthcare is under discussion and I am afraid their decision is related to saving money rather than saving lives," Kopans said.

    * "The USPSTF recommendations are a step backward and represent a significant harm to women's health," Dr W. Phil Evans, president of the Society of Breast Imaging, said in a statement.

    "At least 40 percent of the lives saved by mammographic screening are of women aged 40-49. These recommendations are inconsistent with current science and apparently have been developed in an attempt to reduce costs. Unfortunately, many women may pay for this unsound approach with their lives."

    By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in "migration assistance" to the Palestinian refugees and "conflict victims" in Gaza .

    The "presidential determination", which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States , was signed and appears in the Federal Register.

    Few on Capitol Hill, or in the media, took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

    Let's review....itemized list of some of Barack Obama ' s most recent actions since his inauguration:

    His first call to any head of state, as president, was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

    His first one-on-one television interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.

    His first executive order was to fund/facilitate abortion(s) not just here within the U. S. , but within the world, using U. S. tax payer funds.

    He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all military trials of detainees halted.

    He ordered overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.

    He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and the "terror attack" on 9/11.

    Now we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to, and live in, the US at American taxpayer expense.

    Obama, this Congress and whoever on their staffs (or PACs) that write this junk are truly out to destroy the middle class of the USA.
    
    Only the beginning from this administration. They are trying to ram through these huge tax bills before they are tossed out on their rears. 

    Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Cap and Trade Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. H.R. 2454, the "Cap & Trade" bill passed by the House of Representatives. If it also passed by the Senate, it will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced.

    The Congressional Budget Office (supposedly non-partisan) estimates that in just a few years the average cost to every family of four will be $6,800 per year. No one is excluded. However, once the lower classes feel the pinch in their wallets, you can be sure these voters get a tax refund (even if they pay no taxes at all) to offset this new cost. Thus, you Mr. and Mrs. Middle Class America will have to pay even more since additional tax dollars will be needed to bail out everyone else.
    
    
    But wait. This awful bill (that no one in Congress has actually read) has many more surprises in it. Probably the worst one is this:

    A year from now you won't be able to sell your house. Yes, you read that right. The caveat is (there always is a caveat) that if you have enough money to make required major upgrades to your home, then you can sell it. But, if not, then forget it. Even pre-fabricated homes ("mobile homes") are included.

    In effect, this bill prevents you from selling your home without the permission of the EPA administrator. To get this permission, you will have to have the energy efficiency of your home measured. Then the government will tell you what your new energy efficiency requirement is and you will be forced to make modifications to your home under the retrofit provisions of this Act to comply with the new energy and water efficiency requirements.

    Then you will have to get your home measured again and get a license (called a "label" in the Act) that must be posted on your property to show what your efficiency rating is; sort of like the Energy Star efficiency rating label on your refrigerator or air conditioner. If you don't get a high enough rating, you can't sell.

    And, the EPA administrator is authorized to raise the standards every year, even above the automatic energy efficiency increases built into the Act. The EPA administrator, appointed by the President, will run the Cap & Trade program (AKA the "American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009") and is authorized to make any future changes to the regulations and standards he alone determines to be in the government's best interest. Requirements are set low initial y so the bill will pass Congress; then the Administrator can set much tougher new standards every year.

    The Act itself contains annual required increases in energy efficiency for private and commercial residences and buildings. However, the EPA administrator can set higher standards at any time. Sect. 202: Building Retrofit Program mandates a national retrofit program to increase the energy efficiency of all existing homes across America .
    
    Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. You had better sell soon, because the standards will be raised each year and will be really hard to meet in a few years. Whoopee! The Act allows the government to give you a grant of several thousand dollars to comply with the retrofit program requirements if you meet certain energy efficiency levels.

    But, hold on, the State can set additional requirements on who qualifies to receive the grants. You should expect requirements such as "can't have an income of more than $50K per year", "home selling price can't be more than $125K", or anything else to target the upper middle class (and that's YOU) and prevent them from qualifying for the grants. Most of us won't get a dime and will have to pay the entire cost of the retrofit out of our own pockets. More transfer of wealth, more "change you can believe in."
    
    Sect. 204: Building Energy Performance Labeling Program establishes a labeling program that for each individual residence will identify the achieved energy efficiency performance for "at least 90 percent of the residential market within 5 years after the date of the enactment of this Act."
    
    This means that within 5 years 90% of all residential homes in the U.S. must be measured and labeled. The EPA administrator will get $50M each year to enforce the labeling program. The Secretary of the Department of Energy will get an additional $20M each year to help enforce the labeling program. Some of this money will, of course, be spent on coming up with tougher standards each year.

    Oh, the label will be like a license for your car. You will be required to post the label in a conspicuous location in your home and will not be allowed to sell your home without having this label. And, just like your car license, you will probably be required to get a new label every so often - maybe every year. But, the government estimates the cost of measuring the energy efficiency of your home should only cost about $200 each time.

    Remember what they said about the auto smog inspections when they first started: that in California it would only cost $15. That was when the program started. Now the cost is about $50 for the inspection and certificate; a 333% increase. Expect the same from the home labeling program.
    
    Sect. 304: Greater Energy Efficiency in Building Codes establishes new energy efficiency guidelines for the National Building Code and mandates at 304(d), Application of National Code to State and Local Jurisdictions, that 1 year after enactment of this Act, all state and local jurisdictions must adopt the National Building Code energy efficiency provisions or must obtain a certification from the federal government that their state and/or local codes have been brought into full compliance with the National Building Code energy efficiency standards.

    CNSNews.com) – Regardless of how lively an election season might be, a new study shows that more 3.3 million voters on current registration rolls across the country are dead.
    
    Another 12.9 million remain on voter registration lists in an area where they no longer live.
    
    The analysis was conducted by the Aristotle International Inc., a technology company
    specializing in political campaigns, developing software and databases for politicians.
    
    In total that means about 8.9 percent of all registered voters fall under the category of “deadwood” voters on the rolls, the term for voters who should no longer be eligible to vote in a precinct.
    
    Not only does this raise concerns about potential voter fraud, but from the interest of campaign consultants, ineligible or expired voters could lead to a waste of resources, said John Aristotle Phillips, CEO of Aristotle.
    
    “Some states have bigger problems than others,” Phillips said. “With deadwood exceeding one in seven votes in some counties, candidates might as well spend a day a week campaigning in the cemetery.”
    
    Among the findings, the study showed that states with the most “deadwood” voters were Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

    Whereas, Judge Hamilton issued anti-life rulings striking down a reasonable law requiring abortionists simply inform women about alternatives to abortion in the presence of a physician or nurse (which bad decision was also overturned by the 7^th Circuit), and

    Whereas, the American Bar Association rated Judge Hamilton as 'not qualified' during his original appointment to the federal bench,

    Therefore, Judge David Hamilton is too extremist and unfit to serve in a place of such authority as the 7^th Circuit Court, the same court which frequently overturned his bad anti-life, anti-liberty, and anti-Christian rulings.

• Our country deserves better

    Am I so out of step with the majority in this country? Why is it that every time I turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper I find myself getting angry? This week I couldn’t believe that our illustrious Attorney General, Eric Holder was there on Television telling us that they were bringing our sworn enemies to New York for a civilian trial. Where in our Constitution does it say we have to give our legal rights to our enemies? In my mind I am asking who benefits from this stupidity, the families of the victims, the fire fighters who lost their brethren, the police and port authority who still hear the screams of the dying in their sleep. How about us, the general public who witnessed planes full of everyday people crashing into the buildings, or the bodies of innocent office workers hurling themselves out of the twin towers to keep from burning alive. None of the above is the answer in case you wondered. There is one answer that comes to mind but I can’t even fathom anyone could be so callous, It’s been stated that Attorney General Holders former law firm, the one that he will surely return to when this country finally regains its senses, represents several terrorists already. Could this be a motive? Are they that arrogant that they would even consider this?
    
    
    
    
    Are we so intimidated by European opinion that it is really necessary that we close Gitmo? We have been so smothered in political correctness that it is affecting our ability to survive as a world power. Who has earned the right to judge our system of government? What part of Europe didn’t we save from tyranny? What would China be today if we hadn’t stopped the Japanese in WWII? How have our enemies treated our captives, from WWII through Korea, Viet Nam, or in The Middle East? The people held in Guantanamo have it better than they did in their own countries. I call them people only because I am so influenced by political correctness that I find it hard to call them what they really are. In our history we have always been the savior of the world not the bad guy. This administration seems to be of the belief that we have a lot to apologize for. Even though I didn’t vote for him I actually thought that after Obama was sworn in, he would see the world for what it really is and temper his agenda for the good of America. I was wrong, his agenda seems to be to destroy the America we grew up in and remake it into a socialist society. To accomplish this goal he has to break the spirit of our people and render them impotent to his will. He has surrounded himself with a group of people who actually despise our country. Socialist, Communist and some of the loudest voices against American freedom are entrenched in his cabinet and his army of Czars.
    
    
    
    In history we learn what is in our future, if you bother to read the history of Germany and the Soviet Union you will see where we are headed. When the President goes to Copenhagen and signs the treaty on Global Warming, we as a sovereign nation will cease to exist. When we give others the right to make and enforce our laws we will have fought all wars, and left all our battle fields littered with our dead for nothing. America will no longer be the shinning city on the hill that so many have held in reverence. The United States that has been the benefactor to the world deserves better. Shout and shout loud, make these egotistical, narcissists hear your demands. Let them know that this is our land, and we’ll defend it with all we have.
